Hi there!

I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, lived in Glasgow, Scotland for ten years, and moved to the U.S. when I was 16.  I obtained degrees in English Education and Creative Writing and received post-graduate training in Adolescent Literacy and Teaching Writing.  In 2005, I began teaching ELA at a charter school in Greenville, SC.  The school's charter featured boys and girls being taught in separate classes; thus, I began an exciting, fulfilling career as an all-boy/all-girl middle school teacher!

Throughout my career, I developed methods to make reading, writing, and grammar more interesting and enjoyable for my students. I initiated "Facebook Friday" in 2008 as a way to teach grammar concepts by analyzing real-world examples of grammar errors. Quickly, this replaced boring grammar workbooks, and many former students still tout Facebook Friday as one of the most fun educational activities they ever experienced. As an off-shoot of Facebook Friday, I created a grammar Instagram page where I still post real-world grammar errors. Click the Instagram link below to check it out. In conjunction with my teaching career, I also freelance edited as time allowed. These opportunities helped sharpen my written analysis skill and helped me teach and grade students' writing more constructively.

In 2018, I married the love of my life, Chanse, and in 2019, I left my 14-year teaching career to move from SC to PA where my parents live. In July, 2020, we welcomed our beautiful son, William. My desire to stay home with our son while contributing financially to our family income and continuing to fulfil my love of teaching and writing led me to launch this online tutoring and editing service.

I am certified to teach English, grades 6-12, and I am passionate about teaching strong communication skills that are applicable to our ever-changing world. Having lived in Britain and America, I have a unique, cross-cultural  perspective on education and communication. Also, investing in my students personally greatly contributed to my success as a teacher. My objective here is the same: get to know my online students/clients as individuals first so I can better meet their academic/professional needs. I am also passionate about helping authors and professional writers hone their written work for the best possible readability and to communicate their message in the most, effective, compelling manner.
